Memphis is an artistic movement from the 1980s. Founded by Ettore Sottsass, Memphis brought together architects, young creators, and designers.
Inspired by the Pop Art of the era, the Memphis group broke away from the rigid codes of post-Bauhaus design by introducing bold colors, geometric and asymmetric shapes, and eccentric patterns like dots and wavy lines. The use of laminate and industrial materials strengthened the movement’s identity, often seen as provocative and avant-garde.
More than just a movement, Memphis is a vibrant lifestyle — where chic and modern collide, and where eccentricity is never too much.
The Inspirations Behind the Memphis Movement
The Memphis style draws influence from several art movements:
- Cubism, for its abstract and geometric shapes
- De Stijl, for its use of primary colors and lines
- The Harlem Renaissance, for its innovative approach to de
- 1960s Pop Art, for its graphic boldness and saturated colors
- Minimalism, as a contrast — Memphis stands in opposition, embracing an exuberant aesthetic
The success of Memphis extended beyond interior design, influencing graphic design, fashion, advertising, and textile design. Even today, its visual language is embraced by young artists and designers worldwide.
The Meaning of Memphis
At its core, Memphis is about freedom of expression and joy. It revolutionized the design world by pushing the limits of creativity and challenging the conventions of its time. It proved that design doesn’t need to be restrained or rational to be functional and impactful.

My Tribute to the Memphis Movement
As a designer, art and design are central to my inspirations. Beyond the equestrian world, I’ve always been fascinated by the artistic movements that shaped history — and Memphis is one of them.
This movement, which I studied extensively in design school, inspired a new jewelry collection: the MEMPHIS collection.
This collection pays homage to the wavy lines, laminates, and bold contrasts that define Memphis style. Each piece is a modern interpretation of this iconic and daring world.
