Silver and vermeil are cared for in the same way. Why? And how?
Here’s everything you need to know to take care of your Mayrena jewelry and keep it looking its best.
Vermeil is a precious metal. It consists of a 925 sterling silver base coated with 5 microns of gold (minimum 18 karats) by electroplating.
When your jewelry isn’t being worn, the sterling silver base may oxidize over time due to sulfur present in the air. That’s why you can care for vermeil pieces just like sterling silver.

1. Protect your jewelry from oxidation
To prevent oxidation, when you’re not wearing it, store your piece in its Mayrena pouch after wiping it with a soft cloth.
Why? Simply to protect the silver base from its natural reaction with air: oxidation. Over time this can cause a slight dark deposit which, in any case, is very easy to clean.
2. Clean your jewelry when needed
To remove oxidation marks that may form over time, you can use:
– toothpaste (which essentially acts like a polishing paste),
– a standard silver cleaner such as this one we use,
– a silver polishing cloth it’s often the most affordable and the easiest to use!
For toothpaste:
– Apply a small dab to your fingertip,
– Gently rub to lift oxidation marks,
– Rinse your piece thoroughly, then dry with a soft cloth,
– If you’re not wearing it, store it back in its pouch.
Good as new shining bright again!
3. Avoid contact with harsh products
Be sure to remove your vermeil jewelry before using hand sanitizer, household cleaners, or perfume. A lso remember to take it off before working out or swimming.
Harsh, acidic, and chemical products attack and alter the vermeil layer on your jewelry.
Bonjour, je voulais vous remercier pour le conseil du dentifrice, ça fonctionne vraiment ! J’avais deux paires de boucles d’oreilles avec bcp de traces brunes et pas moyen de les nettoyer (savon doux, vinaigre dilué, chiffon doux,…) et avec le dentifrice tout est quasiment parti, merci beaucoup !!!
