I always wanted Mayrena to reflect my inspirations and my passion for design. In order to create a very particular universe, I was inspired by many people, styles and artistic movements. Bauhaus is a style I particularly appreciate for its minimalism, geometric shapes and primary materials. This movement has a strong influence on my creations and I strive to mix art and craft to achieve a unique design. Today, I share with you this style that inspires me every day! 

1. The Weimar School, at the origin of the movement

The Bauhaus originates from a school of architecture and applied arts founded in 1919 in Weimar, Germany. The school, which bears the name of the movement, was founded by architect, designer and urban planner Walter Gropius. In order to bring arts and crafts closer together, Gropius brought many artists into the school, including the painter Lyonel Feininger, and constantly mixed different courses and inspirations from fabric, mural painting and theater. 

The materials used are those of the industrial revolution such as steel or glass, the angles are rounded and the designs then reveal a great simplicity.

2. The Bauhaus abroad 

After the elections of 1924 and the arrival of the extreme right, the Bauhaus school is dissolved. The students and professors moved to the four corners of the world and as crazy as it may seem, 

The Bauhaus did not die.

From Chicago to Tel Aviv, the Bauhaus teachers continue to create works of art and to build schools and buildings. Beyond a professional path, this style was now part of their personality. 

The Bauhaus became an international style in which the world's greatest masters and artists appeared. The sobriety and functionality of Bauhaus furniture are at the service of man and his well-being.

3. Bauhaus as a furniture style

All Bauhaus artists and craftsmen aimed to create furniture that was simple, aesthetically pleasing and accessible to all. The two main characteristics of Bauhaus are minimalism and functionality. All these artists revisit the materials used and their color palettes to opt for concrete, steel, glass and primary color palettes.

As far as their savoir-faire is concerned, the furniture prototypes are made from geometric shapes: circle, square or triangle. The lines are pure and sober. One of the flagship objects of the Bauhaus style is the Wissily chair by Marcel Breuer: pure design, steel tubes, black leather, we find all the elements of the Bauhaus style.

4. An inspiration in jewelry

The Bauhaus was a real source of inspiration for me. After spending two years in Rotterdam as a freelance designer in furniture design studios, I learned about this style and was inspired by it to create this first Reversible collection. 

Thus, the jewels retranscribe this threadlike, minimalist side as well as the purity of the lines and curves of this movement.
